Pre-existing static base
This signifier is present when the stereotomic structure takes advantage of a pre-existing base that is capable of withstanding the vertical and horizontal thrusts that are exerted into it. Although the soil could be excavated in the shape of a negative of the springer so that it would be inserted in the base, a connecting element is often used to transfer loads between the structure and the base, bringing simplification and accuracy to the process. In the case of hanging stereotomies, such as Catenary Compression or Marble Curtain, tension resistance requires a fixed point above which is usually provided by a pre-existent construction
