Binder jetting
Binder jetting is the process of aggregating powder materials with a liquid bonding agent, resulting in solidified shapes. This method can be used with sand, effectively creating strong compressive elements, similar to unreinforced concrete. Drawing inspiration from flat vaults and Guastavino’s “rib and dome system”, a stereotomic slab composed of discrete elements was sand printed by M. Rippmann et al. (2018). Relying in its funicular profile and contact faces to transfer loads to the supporting walls, this flat vault takes advantages of stereotomic construction while reducing the material necessary to a minimum and incorporating fine notch details
