Double Curvature
Double curvature intrados generally are direct consequences of partitioning a double curvature vault such as a dome or free form vault. Classic stereotomy is very prolific in this kind of intrados surface because the difference in time invested in chiseling this kind of surface or a less variable surface was residual in relation to the overall construction work. Current materialisation processes for producing double curvature intrados (3D carve, Additive) take considerable more time than simplified versions, which, at least partially, explain a contemporary more faceted stereotomy than the classic curved counterpart. Nonetheless, double curvature itself may also be a form of expression, as seen in Voûte de LeFevre.
