Milling (2D cut)
Milling is a very diffused machining technique, which, within this 2D cut § 4.1 term, is also known as 2.5-axis CNC milling, or 2.5D machining. It is commonplace in woodshops as it efficiently cuts a board of wood as specified by a computer vector contour. The mill is vertically mounted in a spindle which, after being lowered to the cutting depth Z position, may move and cut along any combination of XY coordinates. The technique may be used for cutting planar wood boards which, bond together, might recreate the three dimensionality of a voussoir (Almegaard, 2013). It is also efficient as a way to cut prismatic voussoirs which can be used for vaults composed of adjacent arches (Azambuja Varela, Paio, et al., 2014)
