Material extrusion
Material extrusion processes use an extruder that moves freely in XYZ coordinates (mounted in a robot or a gantry) and deposits fused filament, usually in stacked contours. The thickness of the deposition may vary, allowing for a range of balancing between swiftness and resolution. This process works by allowing gravity to settle the fused material, and is dependent of a support where to deposit the material. This support is usually the fabricated element itself, as temporary supports that may be printed as well must be removed, leaving defects on the piece.
