Water jet
A water jet cutter is a machine that cuts material by the abrasive power of a high pressure thin water jet. The dispersion of water through the material creates a larger area of action and subsequently a lower pressure, making it only suitable to cut materials with thicknesses under 150mm. It is a fast method of creating ruled surface cuts in soft or hard materials such as cork, wood or stone. The CorkVault Aarhus takes advantage of this type of fabrication and its 180 voussoirs were machined in less than ten hours (Azambuja Varela and Merritt, 2016) with a smooth finish in the contact faces that catered for a flush fit without the need for mortar.
